Here are 8 tips to help you find your personal style
  1. Look for inspiration. Admire a certain celebrity’s fashion sense? Take a detailed look at what they’re wearing. How does their shirt fit? What colors are they wearing? What is it exactly you like about that person’s style? Develop a portfolio of your favorite styles to inspire your next outfit!
  2. Look in your own closet. What items do you like best? Pull them out and figure out why you like them the best? Are they cozy? Do you feel confident in them? Is the quality, just right? These are the qualities you will be looking for in your next purchase.
  3. Bring a friend. Bringing a friend to try on outfits is a perfect way to gain a different perspective that might stick. You see, we get engrained in what we already know and like. Having a friend to coax you into trying on an outfit you wouldn’t normally try can open your eyes to different styles!
  4. Get with the lingo. Different styles have different names. Here are a few styles to get familiar with: vintage, bohemian, casual, vibrant, elegant, cowgirl, business formal, goth, and punk. Incorporating small elements is is a good way to ease into these styles!
  5. Try on a friend’s clothes. Have a friend with impeccable fashion sense? Ask if you can try on their clothes. This will open doors to new outfits you may not have known you liked.
  6. Less is more. Clean out your closet! Yes, that’s right, cleaning out your closet can help streamline your wardrobe and make you think more clearly about what items go well together. From there, the next time you are shopping, you will have a better idea of what you need to fit your fashion vision.
  7. What is your lifestyle? Developing your wardrobe relies heavily on your lifestyle. It helps to be clear of your activities when wearing your newly developed wardrobe.
  8. Don’t forget the accessories! Accessories will complete the look you’re going for. Again, look for inspiration in pop-culture or your social circle to determine what accessories will propel your personal style. You can also try accessories from the styles listed above. Feeling like a farm-girl? Try some cowgirl boots. Feeling adventurous? Try a vibrant scarf!

Consignment: Look Good, Feel Good!

They say there’s no bad weather, just bad clothing!
Winter is officially here. That means we're accepting Winter consignment.

Why Shop Consignment?

After many years accepting all sorts of clothing, we’ve noticed a trend in todays retail fashion market.

Clothing is becoming less and less about the quality, and more about producing it cheaply.

With that, brings paper thin material that deteriorates after a few washes.

Introducing...

Fast Fashion

Picture

You see a trendy sweater at the local mall and decide to pick it up. You wear it and it feels amazing but after a few washes, it becomes useless. The threads are unravelling and the logo is flaking off.

This type of fashion isn’t sustainable and something we avoid at Pipsqueaks and Damsels Consignment.

Every item we accept has withstood changing trends and tumbling driers. You can feel great knowing you aren’t producing more garbage for the planet by shopping for fast fashion.

Consignment and Waste Reduction

Many shoppers have a negative stigma around consignment thinking that it’s “thrifty” or “out of style”. But what if we changed the narrative? What if consignment was in fact trendy AND sustainable.

By working together, building a community, and getting the word out about consignment, we can reduce the amount of waste in our landfills.

The average Canadian throws away 37 kg of textiles per year with North American sending over 10 million tons of textiles to the landfill every year. The staggering fact is that 95% of these textiles could be reused or recycled. Crazy!

"What a great store! It’s huge and full of great stuff. They are very picky about what they’ll accept for consignment so you’re bound to find something awesome"
 - Jackie

We sort through the clothing and put only the best on the floor. From our hand picked selection, shoppers commonly find rare items at a fraction of the price, we even have a dedicated Lulu rack!

Along with our Lulu rack, we have a section of the highest quality items. You can come in and know exactly where to go without sifting through unwanted items.

With several racks of new items entering our system daily, you can be assured there will be something new every time you shop.

Here is an outfit from our store!

Our First (And Only?) Tent Sale

After our fashion show last year, we began thinking what our next big event would be.

We wanted to educate the Penticton clothing scene about the benefits of consignment. To get the word out, we wanted to do something big.

With COVID-19 preventing gatherings in our store, we had to go outside.
Something big was in the making, we just didn’t know what.

After seeing pop-up sales in  large cities, we came up with the idea of a tent sale.

Penticton, although small, has a community feel that we want to nurture.

Also, we redesigned our logo and bought new signs. It was time to reveal them to the world!

It's Show Time!

On the early morning of Saturday, September 5, we carried 15 racks of clothes down stairs.

With the help of some friends, we had everything set up for our famous fill-a-bag sale.

The community flocked to the opportunity to fill a large bag for just $15. It got a little crazy!

Calming jazz music set the tone for what was a rather hectic event.

Under the shining sun and warm Okanagan weather, laughs were shared as friends and family spent time together looking for their next treasure.

Penticton needs some excitement once in a while and our tent sale accomplished that.

Shoppers were thrilled when they discovered they could stuff as much as they could in the bag!
Upon The Setting Sun, We Were Finished

At the end of the day we donated 39 bags to the Canadian Diabetes charity.

It was a pleasure to meet so many new people and hear how they loved our selection of items.

As the awareness towards consignment grows, we find our quality of clothes increasing which is awesome for everyone!

We look forward to seeing you again Penticton,

Sincerely,

Pipsqueaks and Damsels
"Great place to shop. Quality clothing at great prices. There are a couple of staff with a fantastic sense of color and fashion to help shoppers say what looks great on someone. So very helpful for those of us who need an extra eye to help us shop."
